Where we are
The
Cairnbaan Hotel is situated at Lock 5, approximately halfway along the
9 mile-long Crinan Canal.
It
can be reached from the north (Inveraray) on the A83 or the A816
(Oban), or from the Cowal peninsula on the Tarbert - Portavadie ferry.
To the south is Kintyre and the Isle of Arran via
the Claonaig - Lochranza ferry.

For the sporting guest, golf
is available at the nearby Lochgilphead Golf Club.
The excellent fishing includes facilities for Sea
Angling and Salmon Fishing.
Many attractive Hill Forest Walks are to be found
in the vicinity of
the Hotel and walking or cycling along the Crinan Canal is a popular
pursuit. The hotel is an easy drive from the nearby village of Tayvallich.
There are opportunities for sailing, and yachts
are available for charter. Deer stalking can be arranged on request.
For those wanting a more relaxed holiday,
local places of interest include Inveraray
Castle, home of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, where some of
the finest treasures in Scotland are on exhibition.
Dunadd Fort where the ancient Kings of Scotland
were crowned, and ancient cairns and standing stones.
Inveraray Jail is an unusual holiday
attraction: guides dressed in the uniforms of prisoners and warders
re-enact its 19th century past.
At Kilmartin House Museum, Argyll's
ancient past comes alive.
The Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig features
herds of red deer, Highland cattle and many species now extinct to the
wild.
